poem ???

the desert rain
intermittent and light
bringing freshness in it's wake
surprising how the entire desert
responds so quickly
to small amounts of moisture

in other places
nationwide
rain is expected,
tolerated,
or seen as a nuisance
here in the desert
it is life itself

we,
on the eastside of Tucson
had a small dose last night
tonight,
it's pouring steadily

booming claps of thunder
disturb the soothing drizzling noise
of runoff from the roof

our summer rains,
in the desert
are the life of the region
winter and spring rains
are special bonus gifts

we enjoy our rains
whenever they appear
even though some folks
have never learned
how to drive
on rain drenched streets

I shall sleep good tonight
coolness
and rain noises
are much better
than sleeping pills
or counting
those leaping wooly creatures

to sleep
perchance to dream

hopefully quiet dreams

perhaps
of my cowboy heaven
or times long past
or things that never were
and never shall be

farewell ...
until my next visit to the keyboard

PEACE ... LFTD
